From the We- Didn't- Fall-Off-The-Props-Table-Yesterday Department
If a group orders production materials and doesn't order additional scripts we kinda wonder if they plan to
a) pass around one script between all the actors or
b) photocopy it.
There are exceptions -- we will allow scenes to be copied for auditions, for example. We may allow copies to be made for director or crew. But we simply cannot allow pirate photocopies and you must contact us before doing any reproduction. Period.
Also, if a group orders 15 copies of the same script, but doesn't order production materials we wonder if they plan to
a) give them out for Christmas
b) present a performance
There's nothing wrong with ordering 15 of the same script and it's probably a totally legit reason, but it is a bit of a red flag for us, and we will contact you to inquire.
And, finally, a serious note. . .
You would think that anyone who loves theatre wouldn't dream of staging performances and "forgetting" to get permission and pay royalties.
Sadly, you would be wrong.
Fortunately, there is the internet. And most folks who "forget" to get permission and "forget" to pay royalties DO remember to send a listing to their local paper or put it on their website, or have an actor list it on his/her website. One way or another it will show up online. All of us here at Mysteries by Moushey know how to "google." And so does our lawyer.
